Guinea Pig Vitamin C Calculator

Estimate daily Vitamin C needs by weight and condition, then compare high-VC foods and deficiency warning signs.

Remember: This calculator gives an estimate, not a diagnosis. If your guinea pig shows signs of deficiency or stops eating, see a veterinarian quickly.

Calculate Daily Vitamin C Needs

Enter weight and condition to estimate daily Vitamin C requirements.

Adult guinea pigs usually weigh 700-1200 grams.

Deficiency Warning Signs

If your guinea pig shows any of these signs, increase Vitamin C intake and seek veterinary care quickly.

  • Swollen joints or limping
  • Lethargy or unwillingness to move
  • Reduced appetite or refusal to eat
  • Bleeding gums or loose teeth
  • Rough, dull coat
  • Hind leg weakness or trouble walking

Emergency note

Vitamin C deficiency can develop into scurvy within 2 to 4 weeks and may become life-threatening without treatment. If your guinea pig stops eating and shows limping, seek emergency veterinary care.

Feeding Tips

Use fresh vegetables first

Fresh vegetables are the best Vitamin C source. Bell peppers are the top choice; 1-2 small slices daily usually covers most needs.

Storage matters

Vitamin C degrades over time, especially with light and heat. Store produce properly and avoid leaving cut vegetables at room temperature for hours.

Supplements can help

If daily fresh vegetables are not possible, use a guinea pig-specific Vitamin C supplement. Water-soluble supplements should be mixed into fresh water daily because potency drops quickly.

Pellets alone are not enough because added Vitamin C decreases over time.
